Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Merkley, 79, resident of Murphysboro, formally of Eldorado passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Betty was born November 3, 1938 in Huntingburg, Indiana to the late Vick and Selma (Friedman) Merkley. She was a teacher at Eldorado Unit 4 School for may years. Betty was Catholic by faith. She is survived be a sister; Carol (Ronald) Stolz of Alto Pass, a brother; James ((Nancy) Merkley of Dupo. Betty had a special place in her heart for her students. Many of them were still in frequent contact with her and she cherished each one of them. Betty also enjoyed spending time with her retired co-workers from time to time. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, November 10, 2017 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eldorado. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado is in charge of arrangements.
