James Edwin Parks, 88, resident of Raleigh, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana. Jim was born July 28, 1927 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late Harry Ray and Florence (Moore) Parks. He married the former Cathleen Dodd who survives. Jim served in the US Navy during WWII and the US Army during the Korean War. Jim was a 4th generation railroad worker, working for New York Central and Conrail. He was a master gardner and an avid fisherman. Jim was a member of Star General Baptist Church. Jim is survived by his wife Cathleen Parks, nieces and nephews; Larry (Cathy) Parks of Eldorado, Ronnie (Janet) Parks of Eldorado, Steve Vineyard of Cahokia, Vickie (Tom) Ray of North Carolina, a sister-in-law; Norma Stehr of Cahokia and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a infant daughter; Jetta Kay Parks, a brother; Morris E. Parks and a nephew Robert Parks. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday July 16, 2016 at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with Rev. Aaron Phelps officiating. Visitation will be Saturday 10:00 am to service time. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery with Military Rites.
