Randy Sweeney

Randy “Slue” Sweeney, 65, resident of Herrin passed away December 18, 2017 at his residence from complications of cancer.  Randy was born June 26, 1952 in Dawson Springs, Kentucky to William Sweeney and Hattie Jones.  Randy married Delores (Kimmel) Sweeney on May 12, 1989. He spent many years of his life in Baton Rouge, LA.  He loved the south. Randy’s greatest passions were fishing and hunting.  He absolutely loved to fish, hence the nickname “Slue”. As a young man you could always find him down in a slue somewhere fishing.  He was a very caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Randy is survived by his wife Deloris Sweeney, 3 daughters; Angel Rogers, Stacey Marks, Sabrina Winters, 3 son-in-laws; Josh Rogers, Jeff Marks, Bryan Winters, 7 grandchildren; Tabitha Rogers, Rocky Rogers, Harley Rogers, Jessica Arnold Kelly Marks, Brianna Winters, and Vanessa Winters, a great granddaughter; Kaylee Varble, 3 brothers, Tom Sweeney, Holly Attebury, and Tony Walker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 5 siblings; Mike Sweeney, Danny Sweeney, Paul Sweeney, Gail Durbin and Ann Willis. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm December 23, 2017 at 11620 Strawberry Roadin Carbondale, IL, officiated by Carolyn Ellison.  All friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Colonial Terrace Funeral Home and Crematory in Eldorado assisted the family with final disposition.
