Velma L. “Toots” Harbison, 78, resident of Raleigh passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at her residence. Toots was born February 23, 1939 in Harrisburg to the late Joseph and Mary (Hazley) Durant. On November 11, 1955 she married Rex Harbison who survives. She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter; Debbie Hill, a son; CJ Harbison, a sister; Mary (Bill) Gholson, grandchildren; Michael Hill, Michelle (Brandon) Segler, Jason Harbison, Tyler Harbison, Katharine Harbison, great grandchildren; Jase Segler, Ty Segler and Avery Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers; Bob Durant, Joseph Durant, a sister; Flora Kumer and a great granddaughter Peyton Hill. Toots had a love for her race horses. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. As per her wishes a private graveside service and burial were held Monday, September 11, 2017 at Raleigh Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Rush officiating. The family wishes to express their love and thanks to the nurses and staff of Deaconess VNA Hospice.
