Vernon Lee Hammersley, 84, resident of Eldorado passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Marion. Vernon was born November 11, 1934 in Eldorado to the late George and Mary (Basham) Hammersley. He served in the US Marines during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Eldorado VFW. Prior to retirement he worked as a truck Driver and worked at Precision National in Mt. Vernon. Veron is survived by two daughters: Gail Carter and Kerry Hammersley both of Mt. Vernon, a special friend: Mary E. Suttner of Eldorado, three brothers: Lewis Hammersley of McLeansboro, Virgil Hammersley of Genoa, Larry Gene Hammersley of Eldorado, two sisters: Louise Spriet of Eldorado, Wanda Skelton of MI, two granddaughters: Michelle Bradley, Kalia Smith, and four great grandchildren: Cooper Bradley, Keegan Bottemuller, Addyson Bottmuller and C.J. Younger. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Lowell and a sister, Bernice Hargrave. Graveside burial will be at 1:30 pm Monday, April 1, 2019 at Rhine Cemetery in Raleigh with military honors. Visitation will be 11:00am to 1:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
