Ardella V. (Farris) Martin

January 26, 1932 ~ May 2, 2020 (age 88)

Ardella V. Martin, 88, resident of Norris City passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. Ardella was born January 26, 1932 in Omaha, IL to the late Hershel L. and Bernice L. (Hamilton) Farris. Ardella was a farm girl that grew up in rural Omaha. She was swept off her feet by a World War II Navy boy, Bob Martin, and they married. Early on she worked side-by-side with her husband at Martin’s Grocery Store in New Haven. They lived in the back of the store during those days. Later she was the friendly checker at their IGA in Norris City. When Bob extended business ventures, Ardella decided to stay home and manage the household, her children, and her expansive lawn and land. She enjoyed being an animal whisperer. She has raised horses, dogs, cats, swans, geese, and helped with cattle. She wasn’t a very big woman but she could outwork anybody. She always looked her best, dressed in white with her gold shoes. For years she and Bob would sneak away to Marco Island, Florida during the winter. A few weeks ago she returned from Florida for the last time. A few days ago she mowed her 6 acres on a Kubota tractor. Today she is enjoying the beautiful expanse of heaven with her Savior. She was a member of the United Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Norris City. Ardella is survived by two daughters: Connie (Tim) Baker of Golden, CO, Terah (Howard) Sterns of Norris City, a son: Charles (Joy) Martin of Godfrey, 14 grandchildren: Monica Patton, Craig Christensen, Travis Baker, Letitia Christensen, Cortney Christensen, Nathan Christensen, Mayah Baker, Meika Baker, Noah Sterns, Moriah Smothers, Gabriel Kuykendall, Aja Martin, Thai Martin, Lance Martin, 16 great grandchildren, a brother-in-law: Bill Martin of Mission, TX, Kurt Sutton, an incredible friend who helped her with the caretaking of her home and land after the passing of her husband and a special companion dog that she loved dearly named Lacey.  In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by an infant sister Zella Farris. Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 with Howard Stearns officiating.  Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Norris City.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the United Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ardella’s memory.  Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family via the website www.colonialterracefuneralhome.com
