David Brent Prather

David Brent Prather, 64, of Ridgway, Illinois, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025. Brent, as he was well known by his middle name, was born on March 27, 1961, the son of David Earl (P.D.) Prather (deceased) and Susie (Rogers) Rigsby. Brent graduated from Hardin County High School in 1979. Following graduation, he began his career as a truck driver with Rigsby & Barnard Trucking in Cave-in-Rock, Illinois, where he quickly earned the CB handle “Sweetwater.” He later continued his trucking career with Eagle Valley Trucking in Shawneetown, Illinois, where he remained employed for the rest of his working life and was still employed at the time of his passing. An avid reader, Brent greatly enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was especially skilled at them, never leaving a puzzle unfinished. In later years, he found great enjoyment in camping, particularly at Round Pond in Gallatin County, where he spent time with close friends. On January 5, 2000, Brent married the former Sandy (Cox) Raben, who preceded him in death in June 2022. Brent is survived by his mother, Susie Rigsby of Eldorado, Illinois; his sister, Susan Lori (David) Brooks of Shawneetown, Illinois; his brothers, Brad (Missy) Rigsby of Haubstadt, Indiana, and Heath (Shawna) Rigsby of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; his daughter, Amberly McClusky; his granddaughter, Ivy of Norris City, Illinois; two step-daughters, Tara Raben Sales of Evansville, Indiana, and Erin (Erik) Moss of Harrisburg, Illinois; his nephews, Brandon (Lisa) Moore of Junction, Illinois, and Patrick Rigsby of Evansville, Indiana; his niece, Lexi Rigsby of New York City, New York; and several cousins. Brent had many friends who will remember him fondly. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and again on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Ridgway, Illinois.
