Karla Bayless Obituary

Karla (Kuhn) Bayless, a devoted nurse, loving partner, caring sister, and cherished mother, passed away peacefully in her home on October 19th, surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Eldorado, IL, Karla dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her nursing career in 1976 before later joining the Visiting Nurses Association, where she discovered her true calling in hospice care. For over 30 years, she offered comfort and dignity to patients and families during life’s final, sacred moments. Her gentle and insightful ways touched the lives of countless people in her community. In 2002, Karla met Pati Loehr, the "love of her life" and together they shared a deep and joyful partnership, filled with laughter, adventure, and unconditional love. Whether traveling, camping under the stars, or simply spending quiet evenings together with their beloved dogs, they cherished every moment side by side. They married in 2014. Beyond her career and marriage, Karla had a generous spirit and an incredible wit. She was an avid tennis and softball player, a passionate horseback rider, and an enthusiastic traveler. She found great joy in spending time with her sisters, her family, and her loyal dogs, who were constant companions in her life’s adventures. Karla will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, humor, and the grace with which she cared for others. She lives on in the countless ways her incredible personality persists in those who loved her most. She is survived by her wife, Pati Loehr; her children, Mike Rider, Shawn (Michelle) Rider, Kim Rider, Gina Bayless, and chosen son, Chris Dennis; her sisters, Virginia (Ginnie) Kuhn and Michelle Gaines; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who adored her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Martha (Seibert) Kuhn; her brother, Charles William (Bill) Kuhn Jr.; her sister, Patricia DeVous. A celebration of Karla’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.
