Maurice Deneen Mason, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh, Indiana. Mr. Mason was born on September 16, 1932, in Elizabethtown, Illinois, to the late Bruce and Ruby (Garland) Mason. He completed his primary education at Simpson Grade School and graduated from Cave-In-Rock High School. On January 16, 1951, Mr. Mason enlisted in the United States Army, honorably serving his country for three years during the Korean War. During his service, he completed specialized training as a clerk-typist and finance clerk at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was united in marriage to the former Freda Helen Willis, who preceded him in death. He later married the former Dorothy Cheek Ping, who also preceded him in death. Mr. Mason is survived by his son, Keith W. (Tammy) Mason of Eagle Creek; two daughters, Cynthia A. (Stephan) Ledbetter of Harrisburg, and Debbie K. (Kent) Wilson of Evansville, Indiana; four step-sons, Fred (Donna) Ping and Johnny (Kathy) Ping, both of Stonefort, Danny (Jonnie Beth) Ping of North Carolina, and Mark Ping of Eldorado; one stepdaughter, Faye (Dann) Ping of Florida; and a daughter-in-law, Tammy Mason of Cave-In-Rock. He is also lovingly remembered by 31 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and spouses, he was preceded in death by a son, Tony D. Mason; a brother, Marvin Mason; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Mason; and a grandson, John Matthew Roe. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, with Rev. Fred Ping officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery in Cave-In-Rock, with military honors rendered at the graveside.
