Michael James Murrie, 59, of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away on June 30, 2026 at his home. He was born on July 3, 1966 to the late James E. and Carrie Charline (Gibbons) Murrie. He was a star left-handed pitcher for the Harrisburg High School baseball team and American Legion in the early 1980s with opposing team members joking that with him pitching, they would just be showing up to lose. His pitching talents took him to university of Kansas and Eastern IL University before an athletic injury ended his career. He achieved a degree in psychology and counseling and his job took him to the St. Louis area and to the Carolina area. He loved cats, music, mountains, biking, and nature. He also loved the Atlanta Braves. Michael’s life was one of quiet strength, selfless devotion, and unconditional love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and most recently his sister, Melanie Murrie. Despite the heartache he endured, Mike never stopped putting the people he loved before himself. For many years, Michael lovingly cared for his parents as their full-time caregiver. He set aside his own dreams, personal needs, and financial security. His love was shown not through words but through his unwavering presence, kindness, and sacrifice. Mike never sought recognition for the sacrifices he made. He did what he believed was right, caring for those he loved through quiet dignity and an open heart. Mike asked for very little in return. He lived a humble life, giving of himself and finding purpose in caring for others. Although life brought him many challenges, we will remember him for the compassion he showed, the strength he carried, and the love he gave so freely. Mike’s life is not measured by material things, but by the lives he touched so deeply. His kindness, sacrifice, and love will never be forgotten. Mike is survived by many cousins who carry him in their hearts forever. As per Michael’s wishes, he has been cremated and no service will be held.
