Raymond Glen Kanady, 89, of Junction IL passed from this world on October 26, 2025 at the home of his daughter.
He was born on March 25, 1936 to the late Raymond and Ethel (Parker) Kanady. He was married to Phyllis Freda (Terrell) Kanady, who preceded him in death on September 29, 2023.
Wimp was an avid fisherman, coon hunter, and keen tradesman. He loved a good auction, flea markets, or rummage sales. He was the proud host of the Boys Club, which was a group of gentlemen from the community that met in his garage twice a week to catch up on the week's activities. It didn’t matter where you were; there was always someone who knew Wimp Kanady. He worked at the cabinet factory until it closed, then he went to the coal mines, where he eventually retired. His greatest joy was his family. He loved his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great grandkids. He bragged about them often and loved to watch them in their activities and hear about what they were doing.
Raymond is survived by two daughters, Ethel Huddleston of Junction, Freda (Sherman) Rider of Shawneetown. Four Grandchildren, James “Jim” (Jamie) Newton of Junction, Shannon (Johnny Abell) Sauls of Shawneetown, Abby (Rick) Rice of Harrisburg, and Sarah Rider of Junction. Seven great-grandchildren, Druanne Newton of Junction, Tyler (Abbi Arnett) Newton of Junction, Hannah (Weston Riding) Sauls of Carbondale, Gracie Sauls of Marion, Adam Rice of Harrisburg, Gage, and Gabriel Joiner of Junction. One great-great-grandchild, Ellie June Newton of Junction. Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, and an infant daughter, Sandy Jean Kanady, a brother, Jerry Kanady, two sisters, Beulah (Ralph Brannon, Rufus “Pos”) Harrelson, and Eula “Maxine” (Leithis “Lee”) Hise.
Graveside arrangements are pending his cremation. Family and friends are welcome to attend when the arrangements are made. He will be put to rest at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elmwood Cemetery.
