Robert Carter Obituary


Robert E. Carter, 83, resident of Eldorado passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Helia Healthcare in Energy. Robert was born December 18, 1936 in Eldorado to the late Gus and Charlene (Rogers) Carter. He graduated Eldorado Township High School in 1955. After high school, he attended DeVry in Chicago to receive his 1st Class Radio-Telephone Operators License in 1956 to become licensed with the FCC. Robert worked many years in broadcasting, starting when television was in its infancy, as an engineer spanning over 7 decades at  WSIL TV3, WTVW 7 Evansville, Indiana as well as several other stations. He retired his career in 2017 to which he would reside in Eldorado. “Bob” as he was known to many friends and family, enjoyed being a HAM radio operator which he began while still in high school and continued through his retirement. He also was a private pilot in the 1950's. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 with Signal Corp. Robert is survived by his son: Michael Sean Carter of Marion, his granddaughter: Sarah Mackenzie Carter of Carterville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister: Virginia "Billie" Carter Wade. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 18, 2020 at Lindale Cemetery. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Rev. Russell Helton will officiate. Due to restrictions of Covid-19, facemasks and social distancing will be required.
