Roger W Suttner, 81, resident of Ridgway, died Friday, March 24, 2023 at his home. Roger was born December 21, 1941 to Phillip and Lillian (Luckett) Suttner in Ridgway. Due to his extraordinary height, Roger’s life was punctuated by basketball. He played center for the Ridgway Eagles and the Kansas State University Wildcats culminating in a trip with the Wildcats to the NCAA Final Four in 1964. He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, Players Hall of Fame in 2022. Roger is survived by three brothers: Thomas (Mary) Suttner of Norris City, James (Helen) Suttner of Ridgway and Donald (Shanna) Suttner of Ridgway and Springfield, OR, his former wife: Mary Ellen of Harrisburg, his nieces: Cyndi (David) Suttner-Punke of Paxton and Angie (Justin) Suttner-Raymer of Ridgway, his nephews: Robert (Garyn) Suttner of Greenville, MS and Matt Suttner of Ridgway and 4 grand nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents. No services are planned at Roger’s request.
