Theodore Respondek, Jr. Obituary

Theodore "Ted" John Respondek, Jr. of Eldorado, passed away peacefully after a sudden illness while battling Lou Gehrig's Disease on April 15th, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving wife Ann, and two sons Keith & Mike at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. It was his 72nd birthday. 

 

Ted was born on April 15th, 1949 in Detroit Michigan to the late Theodore Respondek and Mavis Respondek nee, Edwards. 

 

Ted's grandparents were immigrants from Poland and settled in Detroit. Ted's parents then moved to East St. Louis where he spent most of his younger years with his 5 other siblings. 

 

Later in life, Ted drove a semi-truck over the road for several years.  He then changed pace and worked at Hayden's Mill in Omaha owned by good church friends Richard and David Sutton. Towards the end of his working career,  Ted spent several years working for his brother's railroad company,  Respondek Railroad until his retirement. 

 

Ted was baptist by faith and attended Pleasant Valley "Star" General Baptist Church for over 35 years. Ted was proud to be part of Star Church and saw the church through 3 building expansions. He served on the trustee board until his passing. 

 

Ted is survived by his wife of 37 years, Edna Ann nee Mcdonald of Eldorado. Also surviving are his two sons, Keith (Brandi) Respondek of Shawneetown and Mike (Jerrica) Respondek of Simpson. Grandchildren Bailey and Braiden Respondek both of Shawneetown. Roby and Kade Respondek both of Simpson. Step grandchildren, Dylan and Noah Rushing both of Shawneetown.

 

Also surviving are brothers, Terry (Karen) Respondek of West Frankfort, Jerry (Leslie) Respondek of Cape Girardeau Mo., and Roger Respondek of OFallon. Surviving sister Shelley (Tom) Dewey of Gilespie, along with a long list cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

 

Ted was preceeded in death by his parents Theodore & Mavis, a sister Glenda Kelsay, a niece Janice Mooney, and a nephew Luke Respondek. 

 

Per his wishes, he will be cremated. Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado is in charge of the final arrangements. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Star General Baptist Church on Saturday, April 24th 2021 at 2 pm. Pastor Aaron Phelps will lead the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions shall be made to Star Church.
