I had the blessing to meet Shelby, when I first started working as a personal aid at Brownsville School for the Carmi school district in September, 2004. Shelby was in the same class as my student Kateland I took care of. We started in Cynthia Martin's class that year. I instantly knew that Shelby would and always was one of my absolute favorite students. Her smile could light up a room, like a thousand candles. Her happy spirit could brighten anyone's day. Being in class with her I picked up her infamous, "Tee hee hee", aND I say it myself all the time. Her beautiful long hair reminded me of a Disney Princess. Shelby was so blessed to have come from such an amazing, loving, family. The last time I saw Shelby was at Eldorado in the fall of 2015 at a Carmi vs Eldorado football game. She was with her mom, Annette. I went up and told Shelby I was so hapay to see her and Ms. Leslie loved her very much. She said, "Heeeeyy" as I walked off and was done speaking to her and I went back to give her another round of sugars. . When I found out she was critically ill, prayed as I had so many other times when she would be critically ill. Then I heard the heart breaking news that , that sweet girl had left this old piece of dirt with walk on, aND entered into those pearly gates, to start walking! I know she's running hand in hand with her Heavenly Father. Laughing and saying, "Tee hee hee" I'll miss you Shelby AND NEVER forget you and your ability to make a grey day turn sunny! Till we meet again, beautiful girl. May your family feel the love and prayers being sent to them, during this difficult time. Love always, Leslie Prince

I am thankful to God for having known Shelby. Praying for the peace of God for all of her family and friends. I also particularly pray for the comfort of Shelby's school classmates, and for all the school staff affected by Shelby's passing. This is painful even to write. Spending one-on-one time with Shelby at Brownsville activities was always a precious joy for me. Her smile and her radiance will always be a cherished memory in my heart. I love you my friend. Please please save me a spot right beside you in Heaven...

Our sincerest condolences are with you all. Shelby touched many lives and we know she meant the world to Dempsey, Tyler, and the rest of the Gass family. Know that although she may be gone, she will never be forgotten- A soul so happy that affected so many lives, like she did, is eternal in the hearts and minds of those she touched.
